GUIA (Guide for Useful Interventions for Physical Activity in Brazil and Latin America) began in October 2005 with the goal of assessing and evaluating the current evidence base concerning PA interventions carried out in community settings. The project is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

With Project GUIA, we have assembled a multi-disciplinary and cross national team that is highly qualified, building on previous collaborative work among team members, with the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and with partners from Brazil who are experts in physical activity research, practice, policy and promotion. There are numerous essential partners for this project including the Brazilian Ministry of Health, Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Federal University of Pelotas (UFPEL), Pontiff Catholic University of Parana (PUC-PR), Center for Physical Aptitude Laboratory Studies from Caetano do Sul (CELAFISCS), World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) and the CDC.
